Sports Interests
I have been an all-Boston sports fan since I was about twelve years old. Growing up in upstate New York, all of my friends around me were rooting for the New York City teams. And while I got into the Mets in the early 70's, I just never caught the New York sports bug. Instead, I found myself helping out at my grandmother's house, and the only thing on TV that caught my interest was watching the Boston Bruins play on WSBK (TV 38). The next spring I started following the Red Sox, and the Celtics and Patriots followed the next year. Thus from about 1975 until the early 2000s, and with the sole exceptions of the Larry Bird Celtics era, I was a long suffering Boston fan. The success that these teams have seen since 2001 has been long desired, but definitely not expected. It's been a nice ride.
You will see that I list two baseball teams. While I am a Red Sox fan through and through, I started watching the Atlanta Braves as I was starting to move around the country in the late 80's... they were the only team I could watch consistently as I moved three times in almost eight years. Thus, the Braves are my favorite NL team, but it's ok... they started out as the Boston Braves.
You will also note that I include an Australian Rules team in the mix. I started watching Aussie football while living in Cortland, and have remained interested in the game ever since. If you have never seen a game of Aussie Rules football, it is worth checking out.
